MERCURY RETROGRADE IN VIRGO

Mercury Retrograde Information

Mercury Retrogrades in Virgo from August 21st to September 12th. Mercury is unaspected when it goes into it's Retrograde motion, thus intensifying the importance of the Zodiac position in the Sign that rules this planet, and decreasing the helpful influence of other planets. In Virgo, the emphasis is on perfection, preparation, purity, details, routine, health and safety, and practical application of facts. If you do not have things in order, you may feel compelled to thoroughly analyze and assess questionable situations, perhaps over and over, until you do. Self doubt and criticism will be more pronounced, and there may be a feeling of loneliness or helplessness (being very few planetary aspects to Mercury during this period), and perhaps emotional vulnerability as well, as the Moon (inner-world) aspects Mercury through this retrograde period.

Retrograde Mercury stops our thoughts, makes us reflect and review, and sometimes confounds us. As with any Mercury Retrograde, be extra careful with messages, mail, paperwork, travel, computers, communications of any kind, and don't forget to double check your facts. It is sometimes best to put off bigger decisions until one week after Mercury is direct. During this Retro Mercury time period remember to ask for help when needed, focus on sharing responsibilities, do routine, uncomplicated work to keep your mind off bigger issues, be creative, show kindness to yourself and others, care for your body, and don't stress or panic about health issues, and of course it is a great time to practice your patience!

JUPITER RETROGRADE IN ARIES (& PISCES)

Saturn just sent ripples in your relationship life by going back into the Sign of Libra (July 22) where it will remain for the next two years, but another major wave of change is happening with Jupiter turning Retrograde on July 23, 2010 until November 18, 2010 when it goes Direct again.

Jupiter is the planet of luck, grace, favor and fortune. Jupiter brings wealth, abundance, and optimism. Our successes, accomplishments, and prosperity are all within the realm of the grace this large planet bestows upon us. Have you ever wondered what makes one person luckier than another? Why is it that some of us succeed with less effort than others? The answer is the placement of Jupiter in your Birth Chart. Happening in the sky right now in Libra is a very important astrological event. On October 29, 2009 Saturn entered Libra. Saturn has been transiting though work-focused, health conscious Virgo for two-and-a-half years. It’s a big deal when this serious planet enters a new Sign. Hopefully you’ve applied yourself during this Virgo time and have become healthier in body, mind and spirit, and streamlined your day-to-day activities. As Saturn shifts its focus from Virgo work to social Libra, your attention turns to relationships. Whether you’re married, seriously committed or single, you’re prompted to take your relationships more seriously.

Saturn in Libra has a duty to reestablish harmony and balance. Venus, the ruler of Libra, is also in Libra (entered on October 14th). Venus rules how you love, and how you value things in your life. On the high end, Venus is compassionate, and on the mundane level it rules how you appraise, access, and value things around you. The way in which you appreciate is also how you enjoy life, so Venus marks what you enjoy and how you like to spend your time. This emphasizes Saturn's purpose in Libra of establishing healthy partnerships and especially romantic relationships, and as Saturn moves through Libra, it may become common to hear about divorces and breakups as it uncovers unhealthy patterns that have been ignored. Ever since Saturn’s entrance into Libra on October 29, 2009, Saturn has been inching toward this square to powerful Pluto. This aspect is a game-changer and it will be around for a while with two squares: one on January 31, 2010 and the next on August 21, 2010. So pace yourself and don’t react quickly to anything! Saturn is your ‘builder.’ The way you structure your life and build upon the past to create your future –- well, that is Saturn’s job. Pluto is the planet that gets rid of anything that doesn’t work – even if it does not seem that way to you at the time. Simply – something’s got to give. Get ahead of the curve by ditching anything that is not really relevant to your life at this point.

On November 15, 2009, Saturn formed the first square to Pluto, setting off a series of configurations whose influence will last for a few years. This astrological event promises to be intense in what it implies for all of us. When planets come into a square, they are perpendicular to each other like the right angles at the corner of a building. Saturn imposes limits, while Pluto tends to bring out obsessive behaviors. Saturn also produces a black cloud of pessimism to affairs, while Pluto intensifies the emotional impact of events. With this dynamic, it's likely that you'll feel quite restricted by social and environmental constraints, and that the influence of the society in which you live will have considerable impact upon your life, often appearing to be a negative one. Frustration may be inevitable. This Saturn-square-Pluto configuration will be touched off by other planets all through 2010. URANUS RETROGRADE IN ARIES (& PISCES)

Uranus, the planet of rebellion, turned Retrograde on July 5, 2010 until December 6, 2010 when it will go back to Direct motion again. Uranus is the oddball of our Solar System by rolling along its side -- on its equator -- instead of spinning upright in its orbit the way planets typically do. Uranus is also in Retrograde for more than half of the year which means it is only direct for about five months out of every Earth year.

The energy of this rebellious planet liberates you from the shackles of convention and applies pressure to change whatever is stagnant in your life. Uranus rules electromagnetic energy and is like a lightning storm that creates chaos as it cleans the air, revealing a fresh new world once the storm has cleared. During this Retrograde period, expect the unexpected. Wonderful and startling surprises are very possible. This Retrograde may set your wild side free, or it could make a notoriously outgoing person uncharacteristically shy.

URANUS ENTERS ARIES

Uranus entered Aries on May 27, 2010 for the first time in over eight decades!

The Uranus transit into Aries lasts until August 13, 2010 and this functions as a preview of what will occur as a revolutionary wave of radical change for approximately seven years - starting in 2011. In addition, Jupiter will also enter the Aries, first Sign of the Zodiac, on June 5th. The eventual Jupiter and Uranus merging (conjuncton) in Aries on June 8th will accentuate independence, leadership qualities, and being a pioneer in a key field of your expertise.

The planet Neptune, long considered the planet of make believe, rules our dreams, fantasies and illusions turned Retrograde on May 31, 2010 until it turnes Direct again on November 7, 2010. Neptune goes into Retrograde five months out of every year. It takes 165 years for Neptune to circle the Sun one time, long enough for this planet to spend 14 years in each Sign of the Zodiac.

When Neptune is Retrograde, logic falls to the wayside in favor of esoteric interests and intuition. People begin to pay more attention to their dreams and explore more creative outlets. Being that Neptune rules dreams and ideals this is a great time to use meditation to reach your spiritual center. Neptune is also the planet of exposure and uncovers hidden truths, fraud, and deception. During a Neptune Retrograde cycle all kinds of secrets might be uncovered and put into the spotlight. PLUTO RETROGRADE IN CAPRICORN

Pluto went started it's Retrograde cycle on April 7, 2010 and will go direct in September of 2010. Back on November 26, 2008 Pluto moved into Capricorn where it settled down for the next 16 years until 2024! For the previous 12 years Pluto had been stationed in the Sign of Sagittarius. For the very first time since 1778 (during the French Revolution) Pluto moved into the Sign of Capricorn! It takes Pluto a whopping 248 years to complete its orbit around the Zodiac and, it takes between 12 and 31 years to pass through a Zodiac Sign.

With Pluto Retrograde in ambitious Capricorn, it prompts you to transform your life in order to make achievements. While the world-at-large is focused on taking broken systems and making them work, examine the systems in your own life. What needs a serious rehab? You have until Pluto turns Direct (September 14th) to get your life on a good successful track. That magical, silvery full Moon you'll see tonight when you cast your gaze toward the heavens will endow us all with the ability to find that balance, with just a little bit of effort. Put on your armor as the emotional Full Moon occurs in thin-skinned Pisces. Curious and optimistic, this Full Moon yearns for something new and different.

There's a tremendous sense of movement in this Full Moon. Aside from its location in restless, travel-loving Sagittarius, the current innovative Jupiter-Uranus conjunction is prominent and Uranus transits into a new Sign today - Aries. Move out of your comfort zone or you may be pushed out, as this is a great time to explore and move beyond the familiar! Keep in mind that all Full Moons signal periods of heightened emotions, as they mark a culmination of plans set in motion during the previous New Moon in Taurus, which occurred on May 13th.

Any Full Moon is an emotional, high tide time when you can assess where you are emotionally. Whenever the Full Moon is in Leo, the Sun is in Aquarius because the Moon and Sun are always opposite each other at a Full Moon. This Full Moon occurs with a lot of emotional potency with it being in the Sign of Leo and next to the planet Mars. Full Moons constitute a time-period of preparation for the illumination and enlightenment that can manifest when the Sun and Moon stand as equals on either side of the Earth.

Being that the Sun and Moon are always opposite each other during a Full Moon - this time, because Retrograde Mars is currently opposite the Sun, the Moon sits next to Mars, which heats up the emotional atmosphere quite a bit! Leadership, respect for yourself and others, and creativity are leading themes of Leo…so be sure to lead and create, while conducting yourself in an admirable way. The Full Moon occurs when the Sun and Moon are located on opposite sides of the Earth. In this situation, the face of the Moon visible from the Earth is completely illuminated by the Sun. More specifically, the Full Moon occurs when the geocentric apparent longitudes of the Sun and the Moon are 180 degrees apart. This is a fancy way of saying that the Sun and the Moon are on opposite sides of the sky.

The Moon takes 27.3 days to orbit the Earth. But because the Moon is orbiting around the Earth in the same direction that the Earth is orbiting the Sun, the Moon takes an additional 2.2 days to return to the same position in the sky, where it's perfectly lined up with the Sun. That's why the amount of time it takes to go from a full moon to a full moon is 29.5 days long. Astronomers call this length of time a lunar month. One interesting side note, the month of February only has 28 days. Since that's less than the 29 day lunar month, there are some years where February doesn't have a single Full Moon. The last time this happened was in 1999, and it's expected to happen again in 2018.

When the Moon is full, it's at its brightest. Astronomers measure the brightness of an object using a term called apparent magnitude. The apparent magnitude of the Full Moon is -12.7. When the Moon is only at its first quarter, its brightness is -10.0, which is a reduction of 12x. Ancient peoples carefully recorded the times from full moon to full moon since those were some of the few times that they could actually see and get work done in the night – before we had artificial illumination.

A Blue Moon occurs when a single month has two Full Moons. The second Full Moon in a calendar month is known as a Blue Moon. Blue Moons tend to occur every 2.7 years. For more facts and information on Blue Moons and a current Blue Moon calendar click here.

MOON ENERGY
When the Moon is in a Cardinal Sign (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) generate ideas and get things started.
When the Moon is in a Fixed Sign (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) maintain follow-through and aim for completion.
When the Moon is in a Mutable Sign (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces) gather loose ends and take care of details.

VOID OF COURSE MOON
When the Moon is Void-Of-Course, spend time working on projects already in progress, creative endeavors, or self-improvement. Void-Of-Course simply means that no planets are aspecting the Moon. It's best not to start new projects, sign important agreements, or go shopping when the Moon is Void-Of-Course because the result will probably be unsatisfactory in some way.

Waning - the Moon is in the time phase between a Full Moon and a New Moon, energy is slowing down and becoming quieter.

Blue Moon - the second Full Moon in a calendar month, ruling strange and unusual occurrences.

The lunar cycle has a natural progression from the New Moon to the first quarter Moon to the Full Moon, when the Moon is increasing in light. Then we have the second quarter Moon and then it goes back to the New Moon. This takes a little over 29 days. It's good to keep this in mind when the Moon is new, since a New Moon is always a time of beginnings. Institute something that you want to grow or to become stronger. Since the last Full Moon (Blue Moon!), which occurred on December 31st (Lunar Eclipse), you had the opportunity to stand back and assess how far you've come. When last year closed, you had a great sense about what you wanted to bring into the New Year.

A Solar Eclipse in ambitious Capricorn lights up your connections with the outer world. For many, your career represents your outer world activities; for others, school or volunteer work may characterize the core of your interactions. A Solar Eclipse, which occurs at the New Moon, marks an especially dramatic and important beginning. This is an achievement-oriented Moon, so determine what mountain you want to climb and make a step-by-step plan to get there. Take action to make your life secure through tangible, practical accomplishments. As the Moon's light increases between the New and Full Moon, put energy into something you would like to have become more important in your life.

The Sun, Mercury, and Venus are in Capricorn highlighting the Solar Eclipse along with the New Moon. Mercury is getting ready to resume its regular speed of revolution (turns Direct on January 15th) and Venus is getting ready to move into another astrological sign, so make good use of this event by implementing a solid plan for yourself that includes emphasis on something you really want, contact with people who support your true self, and a timeframe that extends through the end of June & early July (the next Lunar and Solar eclipses respectively).

A New Moon occurs when the Earth, Sun and Moon are lined up so that the Moon is directly in between the Earth and the Sun. From this perspective, the side of the Moon covered in sunlight is turned away from the Earth, and the face we see is in shadow. The Moon takes approximately 29 days to complete the cycle from New Moon to Full Moon and then back to New Moon again. During a New Moon, the Moon is in conjunction with the Sun, as seen from Earth.

Astronomers call it a "New Moon", because shortly after the Moon is completely shadowed, a think crescent peeks out from one side. This is the beginning of the Moon's rise to brightness over the next 2 weeks. The exact time this occurs depends on your geography on Earth, but it will always occur in the Western horizon between Sunset and Moonset.

The orbit of the Moon isn't exactly lined up the the orbital plane of the Sun and the planets, so it doesn't actually get exactly between the Earth and the Sun. When this exact line does happen, the New Moon is seen as a Solar Eclipse, darkening the Sun by various amounts depending on your position on the Earth.
